About
My research interests are both thematic and periodic. I have a longstanding interest in the relationship between theology and music, having written a doctoral thesis on the topic in the post-Reformation church in England. More recently, I have extended that research to the twentieth century, and particularly the period since 1945.
I have also begun to investigate the parallel interactions between the English churches and the visual arts, religious drama and religious literature, again most particularly in the twentieth century.
I am also interested in the history of the Church of England more generally in the period since 1945, and in particular the shifting relationship between the church, the state, the law and British culture. I am currently working on a study of Archbishop Michael Ramsey, to be published by Ashgate. I have also a continuing interest in patterns of memorialisation of the Second World War.
