Thesis Title: Religious Women and Their Communities in Late Medieval Scotland

Marilyn Dunn & Dauvit Broun

About

I did my undergradute at the University of Idaho (USA) and received two Bachelor's:  one in History and the other in American Studies. I decided to pursue my interest in medieval monasticism and came to Scotland for my PhD. I received my PhD from the University of Glasgow entitled 'Religious Women and Their Communities in Late Medieval Scotland' under the direction of Marilyn Dunn and Dauvit Broun. My thesis is soon to be published by Four Courts Press. I have published on themes of prosopography of religious women in Scotland and abbesses; I have also co-edited Building Inclusive Academic Communities: Case Studies of Academic Practice for New Lecturers.

My research interests include monastic and religious life from 1100-1600 in Britain and Ireland. I am particularly interested in the prosopography of religious men and women; social/family history of monastic houses; the development of monasteries in medieval landscapes and uses of monastic spaces and places of female convents.

I am currently the co-organiser of the Teaching the Middle Ages Series at the Leeds International Medieval Congress (with Jason Roche) and the bibliography editor (medieval) and member of the steering committee for the research group, The History of Women Religious of Britain and Ireland. I am also the Chair of History Lab +, the committee dedicated to supporting Early Career Academics, at the Institute of Historical Research.
